Thankful Thursday

June 27, 2007

Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever. Psalm 107:1 Hard to believe that it is Thursday again already. Must time pass so quickly? Tonight we need to hold up in prayers our neighbors in the South Lake Tahoe region who have been impacted by the Angora fire. I can’t imagine […]

In “other” Words: My Prayer List

June 26, 2007

When there is little awareness of real need there is little real prayer.“
~ Donald S. Whitney ~
Spiritual Disciplines For the Christian Life

The above quote speaks to me of my basic humanity.

Do your kids give you the standard “Mom, I told you about it” response when they suddenly announce that they have to go somewhere, do something or need money just when you have no cash in your possession and no time to visit the ATM on the way to wherever you are headed? Do you swear that you knew nothing about it, while they insist that they told you yesterday, last week, last month or whenever?

Thankful Thursday: Happy Summer!

June 21, 2007

HAPPY SUMMER!

Today was the longest day of the year and the weather was absolutely perfect: Not too hot with a light breeze. The sky was as blue and cloudless as in the graphic above.

In “other” Words: A Mother’s Love

June 19, 2007

Our mother used to tell us, “I do not want to hear that you are bored. There are plenty of things to do. Find something.” And then she would walk away, going about her own business, leaving us to figure out something to occupy our own time. She used to call herself a “domestic engineer” which would translate today to how many bloggers describe themselves: SAHM. It took me a few blog visits to figure out that meant “stay at home mom.“She was always at home. Every single day when we got home from school, she was there. Rain or shine. Notice I did not say that she picked us up from school. No, we rode our bikes or walked to school and we only got a ride one way or the other if it was really raining. A few sprinkles? “You won’t melt.”

Monday Candle Moment: Tolerance

June 18, 2007

Entered in the Religion in Everyday Life Blog Carnival at Find Religion. I don’t remember how I stumbled upon Defining Spiritual Presence. I was clicking from site to site and somehow found myself there … It is a beautiful blog and I found the posts there intriguing, filled with discussions about a wide variety of spiritual matters and practices, most […]

Thankful Thursday

June 14, 2007

I’m late! I started playing around with the layout … and then several hours went by. Funny how that works! So I’m thankful that the principles of CSS are starting to make a bit more sense to me. I was able to get the bottom columns to line up but I’m not going to confess here how long […]

YOU?">In “other” Words: Who and What is Leading YOU?

June 12, 2007

Faith never knows where it is being led, but it loves and knows the One who is leading.“
~ Oswald Chambers ~

I tried to write this post last week, but as I mentioned in my Thankful Thursday entry, Blogger then sent it to the abyss. I’ve been working on it ever since and dare say that it is the most difficult writing I have done in a long, long time. But I also feel that it is perhaps the most important writing I have done in a long, long time. Why am I telling you this? Because I want you to demonstrate a forgiving and charitable spirit as you read because my efforts are surely less than perfect, but heart-felt nonetheless.

Religious Tolerance as Christian Value by Rob Witham

June 8, 2007

Thankful Thursday

June 7, 2007

Blogger ate my post.I keep threatening to switch to Wordpress. Is this a sign? I spent several hours this evening working on my post … and then zap! It was gone. And this new “save” function Blogger added saved over the old file that had been saved a few minutes earlier. So I can’t retrieve it. And I don’t have the energy to rewrite it tonight.

Was that the Holy Spirit telling me not to publish it? Or just a Blogger glitch? Or the Holy Spirit telling me to switch to Wordpress?

Guest Bloggers on the Horizon

June 6, 2007

Sometimes the Holy Spirit works in very interesting ways.

I have been inspired to begin a new program here at On the Horizon: Guest blogging.

I was “convicted” to offer this opportunity to other writers because of a recent experience with another blogger. I will post more about that within the next few days but this is essentially what happened: We disagreed. That’s not unusual. Christians disagree routinely about core beliefs, not to mention faith practices.

Blog Your Blessings Sunday

Graduation season. It is almost over for this year.

I’ve attended a couple of graduation and award ceremonies to see loved ones honored. Have you? How do they affect you?

I confess that I’m a big softy and I get a lump in my throat when the band begins playing “Pomp and Circumstance.” Having graduated a few times myself, I am keenly aware of how much hard work is required to earn the right to “walk” — especially if an advanced degree is being conferred. I remember well what it felt like to put on that cap and gown and savor my accomplishments for a couple of hours, feeling successful, satisfied and relieved. I remember hearing the cheers of my friends and family as my name was called and feeling loved, supported and thrilled that I had made them proud of me.
