July 29, 2007

This week I direct your attention to an eclectic, diverse group of articles from some very talented writers:

* Karen reminds us to stop and take time for the things in life are really important in “A Matter of Time.“
* Loni hosted “In ‘other’ Words” this week and wrote on the same theme from a Biblical perspective: “Intimacy with Jesus.“
* Wired for Noise is hosting the Carnival Against Child Abuse. You should check out some of the extremely powerful and moving posts included in the Carnival.

Thankful Thursday: No Ordinary Moments

July 26, 2007

It can’t really be Thursday again already! What happened to the week? Where did it go?

Does time pass quickly in your life? Do you blink and find that it is already Thursday again?

Is the quick passage of time a blessing or curse in your life?

In “other” Words: Who is the Guest of Honor at Your Party?

July 24, 2007

You know someone like Martha. Perhaps you are like her.

She’s the “hostess with the mostest:” The most beautiful silver, china and crystal, the elegantly lettered place cards, the exquisite linens, the breathtakingly gorgeous centerpieces, the gourmet food that tastes like nothing you’ve ever experienced before.

When she plans a dinner party, the preparations begin weeks or even months in advance. There is usually a theme and, of course, color scheme. She spends what seems like an eternity setting the table, making sure everything is in precisely the right spot before going back to the kitchen to assure that the food preparation is progressing flawlessly.

Blog Your Blessings Sunday

July 22, 2007

An embarrassment of riches.”

You are no doubt familiar with that phrase. It came to me as I sat down to write this article.

It refers to feeling so completely blessed that one is ashamed to talk about the things they are grateful for. It also implies some guilt about having so much … when so many have little.

This week, I have some fabulous posts to share with you!

First, however, please remember Robin at Heart of Wisdom in prayer as she is back in the hospital with complications from her recent open heart surgery. Hopefully, she will be back home and continuing her recuperation soon!

Thankful Thursday

July 18, 2007

Songs of thankfulness and praise,
Jesus, Lord, to thee we raise;
Manifested by the star
To the sages from afar
Branch of royal David’s stem
In thy birth at Bethlehem;
Anthems be to thee addressed,
God in flesh made manifest.
That Epiphany hymn started playing in my head this afternoon and I haven’t been able to get the tune out of my mind. This is not the Epiphany season, of course. Epiphany is celebrated on January 6, commemorating the arrival of the Magi who followed the star to the stable to worship the newborn King. But the word “epiphany” has a couple of other meanings, one of them being:

July 15, 2007

There is so much good material to read on the Internet and so little time in which to do it! When I’m pushed for time, I bookmark a lot of entries so that I can go back and read them in their entirety when I have sufficient time to read carefully and consider the content.

So it is my hope that Super Simple Spiritual Sunday will benefit you by pointing you toward some really wonderful posts from the past week, thereby saving you some time while enriching your life.

This week I recommend the following:

Thankful Thursday: He Rocks!

July 12, 2007

This week, Iris has asked us to share “five reasons that I am thankful this week and why I think Jesus rocks/I ‘dig’ Him.”

First, though, I hope you noticed the new Word Press theme. The previous theme was a stopgap measure until I could get everything transferred over from Blogger and set up here on Word Press. I have spent many hours working on this transition and it is still not complete, but I am pleased with how it is coming along.

I am very happy that I made the switch to Word Press — thankful that I received an answer to my prayers about whether or not to make the change. The migration has proven time-consuming and sometimes frustrating, but very much worth the effort expended.

Wordless Wednesday #19

July 10, 2007

I was inspired to use this photo today because of yesterday’s In “other” Words quote, as well as Iris at Sting My Heart’s article, Ambassador in Traffic? I snapped this photo a couple of years ago as we were heading west on Interstate 80 after a few days in Reno. I don’t have a specific recollection of why I took this […]

In “other” Words: I Can Do Everything through the One

July 10, 2007

Relying on God has to begin all over again every day as if nothing yet had been done.“
~ C.S. Lewis ~

When I first read this quote, it did not resonate with me. The second portion of the sentence, “as if nothing yet had been done,” is what bothered me.

What do you mean, ‘as if nothing yet had been done’?” I found myself asking the computer screen. “What about all of my hard work up to this point? What about my accomplishments? What about my spiritual growth? I’m not the same spiritually immature person I was yesterday or the day before or last month or last year or … ”

And as I walked around thinking about the quote for a couple of days, the brilliance of its simplicity began to come into focus.

Without really meaning to, I took a little break from this blog. Life just sort of intervened. As I wrote about on Thursday, I had company and I’ve been spending a lot of time enjoying the summer when not working. But I feel the need to get busy again not only with this blog, but with reading and many other projects. […]
