It can’t really be Thursday again already! What happened to the week? Where did it go?
Does time pass quickly in your life? Do you blink and find that it is already Thursday again?
Is the quick passage of time a blessing or curse in your life?
I am constantly amazed by how fast time passes. I never get used to it, always get caught off-guard and am frustrated by the fact that I am incapable of slowing it down.
Is that because I am always busy and have never checked off the last item on my to-do list? Is it just because I am getting older so time elapses at the same rate it always has but it just feels to me like it is moving faster?
Or is it because of the way we live in the year 2007?
I think it is a combination of all of those things, although the pace of our lives is much different than at any other time in history. I have wracked my brain and I cannot recall my parents complaining about the passage of time the way my contemporaries and I do. I remember them remarking that they could not remember exactly when a particular event occurred, observing that they lost track of time, especially as they got older. But although they were very hard-working people who rarely sat idle, I just can’t bring to mind a moment when they complained of time slipping away from them the way it seems to in my life.
Do you believe in serendipity? ((The word means “good luck in making unexpected and fortunate discoveries.”)) I believe that serendipity is the human term for a supernatural event, i.e., the Spirit pointing us in the direction we are to walk or toward the knowledge we are supposed to obtain at any particular point in our lives.
I had a serendipitous moment as I was writing this article. I believe that it came to me via the Spirit and I was meant to read the words Karen wrote at Live the Power today in her post entitled “Mindfulness and Manifestation“:
Our lives are made up of moments, just short flashes of time, connected into the hours that lead into the days. We can only live in the moment at hand, the here and the now is the only point of attraction that we can control in our lives, yet how often do we miss that here and now? How often do we miss those precious moments?
We often lose time when we are immersed in a joyful ((Iris, our host from Sting My Heart, wrote about joy today!)) activity and we are living our bliss. And while we may not be aware of the passage of time in those instances, that is often when we are feeling the most joy.
. . .
There is a peace and a tranquility that can be found from being present in the here and now. It is just noticing your thoughts and activities, feeling the nuances, seeing the beauty, sensing your life. . .
Practice a level of mindfulness. Notice the moments of your life. Be aware of your thoughts and actions before those moments slip away.
“There Are No Ordinary Moments”
(from “The Way of the Peaceful Warrior” by Dan Millman)
What a great outlook and serendipitous reminder to me to be thankful for each and every moment of each and every day, no matter how quickly those moments evaporate, blending into new moments, like an ocean wave that reaches the shore, blends with and merges into the new wave rolling in right behind it so that they are both part of the whole.

Wow! thank you, thank you!
I love that I can touch people with my words!
That brings me joy!!
P.S. Serendipity is one of my very favorite words in the English language!!
I’m a Karen Lynch fan too. Great post!
Wonderful post, beautifully written!
These are all very good points, and the weird thing is that I was just reading a post about a dad who would- after considering telling the younger him to shape up and stop being such a whimp- go back in time and tell his young (nerdy) self that everything is going to work out just fine.
I commented that I think that it’s unfortunate that some people refer to high school as the best years of their lives… for me, the best years are right now, this moment.
Beautiful post, bless you.
What a remarkable concept… the passage of time does seem to go very fast… yet not fast enough at others.
I must remember to stay patient.
What depth! Thanks for this very special thought provoking post! Great Thankful Thursday. May God Bless You Greatly!
When I know I have an especially busy day, I often pray that God would help me have joy in the moments. I don’t want to miss a whole day in busyness, yet many times things are necessary. I find just praying that prayer gears my mind to look for good and joyful moments in an otherwise ordinary day. Time will always march on. I don’t want to merely endure it. I want to enjoy it.
Isn’t hope a wonderful thing? Your blog is wonderful! thanks for stopping by mine!

Wonderful post! Thank you for your sweet comment about my writing style. I have no idea what kind it is. It just flows out of me. I write better than I talk. Lol!
What a thought provoking message!
I joke with our UPS guy that comes to the office that it seems that we “live” for Fridays….and sometimes it seems true….but what are we doing in between?
You have a neat blog! Thanks for visiting mine–come again anytime!
Thanks so much for your prayers. I have certainly felt the hand of God this week in my life.
Blessings!
This is absolutely beautiful! I think it goes along with your picture for Wordless Wednesday – take time out to smell the roses. We MUST if we are to truly understand why we are here on earth.
amen and amen to what you wrote

Thanks for stopping by my thanksful list. Beautiful words you shared with us. I have been thinking a lot about how time passes recently.
God is just so good. I think the more time we take to spend with Him, the more time he gives us to do the things we need to do.
God Bless!
