Santa Clara firefighter Jason Falarski battles to save a house on Sand Hill Road in Poway.

This is not the photo I planned to present today. But considering what is happening in the southern half of our state, it did not seem appropriate to feature a beautiful picture of fall foliage.
From the thousands of images coming out of Southern California, this picture grabbed my heart: A lone firefighter trying desperately to save a family’s home as the flames come up the canyon into the backyard. Note the large outdoor grill in the foreground and pool behind the firefighter.
Please keep all touched by the fires in your prayers today. 75 mph gusts are expected today and there is no relief from the Santa Ana winds predicted until Thursday, October 25.

My photo is of our fire skies in Camarillo. It really is a horrific time down here for so many.

I am from northern Cali and my heart goes out to them! thanks for this WW, prayers being said!
This is powerful. What a committed fire fighter. That must be overwhelming. Awful. I pray things turn around for Southern California.

what a powerful image. I’m really praying for those fighting them. Have a peaceful Wednesday.
That has really been captured perfectly. I’m sure that firefighter would be so proud to see his photo. How are you and your family doing over there? Hope everything is well.

What a moving picture you chose. Thank you! It is heart breaking to see what was once a beautiful place has become a land of desolation in so many ways. Our prayers are with all of them.

This is just so sad. It’s like watching a horror movie. It’s hard to believe that this is actually real. My prayers are with everyone involved!
My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone affected by the California fires. I know that sounds cliche, but I mean it!
Cheers,
David

It is a blessing to have such dedicated and brave people out there.
Happy BYB Sunday!
I was watching a news clip earlier about some families going back to their burnt homes (actually some couldn’t find any traces except ashes). They were trying to salvage anything they could and one mom was crying over her daughter’s clay toys, apparently the only things that were saved from the fire. My prayers go out to all the victims of the SoCal wildfires. This too will pass.
Tough times for sure, and wouldn’t you know that on top of it all they have to deal with the 75 mph winds. When it rains, it pours I guess.
That’s a sweet photo. Gutsy.
