This shot reminds me of a decoration in Waterbury, Connecticut. The wreath was on a post outside the First Congregational Church, where several city churches were holding a Christmas party for homeless kids. The grit and grime of the streets and the dire poverty of the people in the church were palpable as my daughter’s choir stood on the steps waiting to go in and sing to the kids. I looked up and caught sight of the wreath and fell right into the shared wonder of light that it represented. Bidden or unbidden, God is with us. Amen. Merry Christmas, Hopeful Spirit!
