The Seventh Day: Sixth Edition

by Hopeful Spirit on Sunday, February 3, 2008

On the seventh day God had finished his work of creation, so he rested from all his work. And God blessed the seventh day and declared it holy, because it was the day when he rested from all his work of creation.

Genesis 2:2–3

The Seventh Day is a weekly blog carnival designed to provide bloggers an opportunity to showcase their best work and readers a chance to get acquainted with some new sites and authors!

Welcome to the Sixth Edition of the Carnival, featuring a truly eclectic collection of posts from an amazing group of talented writers!

Blogging

Pearl shares Don’t Let Someone Else Claim Your Blog from Interesting Observations, providing invaluable information that every blogger needs to know in order to avoid becoming a victim of malicious behavior.

James D. Brausch shares Make A Wish and Nothing Happens from Internet Business Blog. “[A] dream with no action is a wasted thought.”

Spirituality / Faith

Shawn shares What David Knew: Made by God from Peace in the Storm. This entry is part of a six-part series based upon Psalm 139:13–18 “written to affirm the worth of each individual, thanks to God’s loving involvement in our creation.”

Alan Gielczyk shares Baptism Part 1 from The Truth IN Context. Alan kicks off a series of posts focused upon the infant vs. adult baptism debate, but sets the stage with this proviso: “Baptism is to be done in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.” Stop by and give Alan an “Amen!”

Sunny shares The secret to a completely fulfilled life from Dandelions and Daydreams. “Love God. Love your Neighbor. Love yourself. Can it really be that simple?” she asks.

Stuart shares Not-so-manly men from Connected Christianity, asking “What’s adulthood all about? What does it mean to be a mature adult Christian man or woman? Why are guys so immature?” Are they? What do you think?

Cindy shares Do you have a Limp? from Supernatural Christian. Cindy writes with a straight-forward, opinionated, but refreshing voice. In this post, she says God told her, “Do not shoot yourself in the leg with the things of this earth. Your walk will become a limp. Be whole and receive my word.” She explains her philosophy about this revelation.

FishHawk shares Bitter/Sweets: Political Correctness from As the Crackerhead Crumbles. In this election year, he cautions that “it is not just over the realm of religion that false prophets seek to reign.”

Music / Culture / Crafts

Marilyn Terrell shares Belizean Musician Andy Palacio: A Remembrance from Intelligent Travel. Suzanne Hackett had a chance to meet world music artist Andy Palacio when he returned to his hometown in Belize after a whirlwind international tour. In this videotaped interview, he discussed Garifuna music and its importance to the Garifuna people of Belize.

Gattina shares Belgian Prison Break from Writer’s Cramps, a “truth is stranger than fiction” story that will amaze you.

Michelle shares Vial Vases from Scribbet — Motherhood in Alaska. If you haven’t met Michelle, it is time that you did! She is an extremely talented blogger, offering “recipes, reviews, crafts and giveaways mixed with stories of life in the Last Frontier.” Wait until you see the ingenious craft idea she shares with us!

Relationships / Self-Improvement

Sandy Carlson shares Criticism: You can’t Touch This from Writing in Faith. Sandy is a teacher and extremely talented writer. She shares insights about the value and process of providing evaluative feedback, noting that “[c]onstructive criticism is about the lifting up of virtue, of helping to strengthen a person involved in a creative endeavor.”

JHS shares What’s in Your Closet? from Colloquium. Her mother — probably unknowingly — left behind a scrapbook in a closet in her parents’ home that revealed much. What items are lurking in your closets? JHS challenges readers to ponder what those items might reveal about themselves and their relationships.

Shamelle shares If You Want To Be Understood … from Enhance Life. She explains: “People go to extreme lengths in order to be understood. In my opinion, there is one main factor that determines whether we succeed. Are you aware of it?”

FitBuff shares What Women Look for in Men from Total Mind and Body Fitness Blog. With lines like “the fairer sex isn’t quite as shallow as us guys,” I don’t know if this guy is actually getting any dates, but his posts are always amusing, at least. I give him credit for including items 3 through 5 on this list, even though I don’t recommend using a title like “Call me Daddy” if you want women to take you seriously.

Business / Careers / Keys to Success

GP presents The Sweet Smell of Success from Innside Montana — Your Home at the Range. “We’re all looking to succeed, in our own individual ways, and we’re all looking for nuggets of wisdom to pave the way.” You will find some in this insightful post.

Allyn Paul shares What your e-mail address tells me about you on a job application from Life and Lawns. Allyn’s blog is genuinely unique and this post is one you definitely do not want to miss!

DotLobby shares What is a Recession? 4 Signs and Symptoms from DotMakeMoney, offering an incisive look at the economy by asking, “How does this affect me?” Unfortunately, here in California, all of the signs and symptoms he lists are readily observable, making headlines every day.

Caregiving / Geriatrics

Mitch McDonald shares Maintain The Basics Of Elderly Personal Hygiene from FYI About.com. Many of us Baby Boomers are going to find ourselves caring for elderly parents, aunts, uncles, et. al. Mitch broaches a subject that must be addressed with tact, respect and delicacy.

Thank you all for participating this week either by submitting a post or supporting those who shared their work by visiting their site and leaving a comment letting them know how much you enjoyed their contribution!

Well, I think I may have done this wrong. I am down with the flu at he moment and did not submit my post until just now. It looks like, however, that I am too late and you may not be able to use it next week. Am I understanding the rules correctly?

I understood I had to submit the post of each Sunday, which doesn’t bother me at all. If ever I have to write something stupid on Sundays (with me you never know, I don’t even know myself) I will submit a post I pondered during the week.

This blog carnival is a wonderful idea. It gives readers suggestions of subjects of potential interest nearby. As we encourage and assist others in our own way, we are also silently learning and growing ourselves.
