The Seventh Day: Eighth Edition

by Hopeful Spirit on Sunday, February 17, 2008

On the seventh day God had finished his work of creation, so he rested from all his work. And God blessed the seventh day and declared it holy, because it was the day when he rested from all his work of creation.

Genesis 2:2–3

The Seventh Day is a weekly blog carnival designed to provide bloggers an opportunity to showcase their best work and readers a chance to get acquainted with some new sites and authors!

Welcome to the Eighth Edition of the Carnival, featuring a wide variety of posts from a diverse group of talented writers!

Writing

Claire shares Thoughts on Short Stories from A Writing Blog: Bebo Author. She is sponsoring a short story writing contest. You can submit an entry through March 21, 2008. Read all the rules here.

Fiction

Jenn shares The Keys to Her Future from Mixed Metaphor.net which she describes as a “fictional story about a woman who learns that her future is not as she had envisioned it, but embraces her new path.”

Homeschooling / Organization

Laura Williams shares Our Day (Homeschool and All) from Laura Williams’ Musings, a look at her family’s daily schedule or “how I do it all with a household of seven children. Included in the post is a link to my menu plans as well.” I stand in awe of Laura’s organizational and management skills. Just reading about everything they do made me tired.

Spirituality / Faith

Laura Beutler shares A Gift for Us All from Children & Chocolate and Other Paths to God. She describes the unusual manner in which she received an important message about a special gift. There’s a lesson here for all of us!

Viola Jaynes shares Surrendering Heart from Spiritual Things Matter, a beautiful poem from an enormously talented and inspiring writer.

Cindy shares God’s Will — Your Will from Supernatural Christian. She says, “There is pain in letting go of our own will” and explains this was most recently revealed to her again.

FishHawk shares Bitter Sweets: Aborted Values from As the Crackerhead Crumbles. His unique perspective on difficult and controversial societal issues is thought-provoking.

Stuart shares This They Believe from Connected Christianity. He asks, “If you completed the sentence ‘This I believe…’ what would you say?” The answers of three folks in particular inspired him. Leave him a comment, explaining what you believe.

Kansas Bob shares Facing Down Fear from An Eye For Redemption. He lists four factors that he considers essential to conquering fear and explains his rationale.

Shawn shares What David Knew: Under Watchful Eyes from Peace in the Storm, the third in his six-part consideration of Psalm 139:13–18. He says, we are “reminded that God has had His eyes on each of us from the very beginning.”

Culture

David shares 1969 And Life In The City / The Who Come To Town from Virginia Breeze, his memoir about the 1960’s and college life.

C.K. shares Chinese New Year Celebration 1/4 (The Parade) from A Singaporean in London. Don’t miss his description of London’s celebration of the Chinese New Year. Be sure to read the entire four-part series about his experiences, written from his unique perspective.

Sandy Carlson shares Of Young Boys and the Mysterious Feminine from Writing in Faith, describing her recent experience with the younger members of her family and, in the process, reaffirming that stereotypes are inappropriate and ridiculous because we are all unique.

Pets

Laura Beutler shares Eight Things to Know Before You Buy a Beagle from Children & Chocolate and Other Paths to God. “Uno,” a beagle, recently won Best in Show at the 2008 Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, focusing a great deal of attention on the breed. Laura shares some of the positive and negative attributes of beagles, based upon her own experiences with “Fred.” It’s a great reminder of the need to select a family pet carefully, after conducting research and considering the best interests of all family members — human, canine, feline, et al.

Health / Wellness

FitBuff shares 5 Benefits of Dark Chocolate — Facts You Need to Know Before Enjoying from FitBuff.com’s Total Mind and Body Fitness Blog. He claims that the benefits are real, but “before you go rummaging through year-old Halloween candy and stuffing your face with Snickers and Tootsie Rolls, there are a few things you need to know.”

Thank you all for participating this week either by submitting a post or supporting those who shared their work by visiting their site and leaving a comment letting them know how much you enjoyed their contribution!

i think homeschooling is a miracle — but your child needs to be very disciplin to get over with the schooling part

yet conventional ones are the best option at the moment

It is really nice to see all the ppl who had made their sharing in the blog and later on they have come over here to see how their sharing is described.

The idea is nice. And the brief of all the sharing was so beautiful.

Thanks for posting the Homeschool link. We are tossing this around for our children. After watching that, we are gonna have to get our house in order before attempting it.
