About Hopeful Spirit
Good things are on the horizon for this hopeful spirit! The truth has set me free!
Here at On the Horizon the focus is on worshiping and giving thanks in all things!
This site documents my journey toward a deeper understanding of the Gospels and enrichment of my faith outside the confines of the institutional, patriarchal church. It facilitates my spiritual growth by providing me with a forum in which to write about my thoughts, feelings and observations.
I am a professional woman with an advanced degree residing in California.
I can no longer say “God” or use male pronouns to describe what I now refer to as the “Divine Creator” or, simply, the “Divine” or “Spirit.” Why? Because I believe the Divine is gender-less and loves all of humanity unconditionally, endlessly. I believe that Jesus Christ was the human incarnation of the Divine and he sacrificed himself in order to demonstrate the Divine’s boundless love for all of us. The Spirit reaches out to and dwells in all of our hearts.
I believe in angels because I have had encounters with a few of them. And I know that the Dark Force referred to by most believers as the “Devil” exists — I have stared it down, battled it and won on quite a few occasions.
The Bible is the authoritative source of guidance in my life, but do not embrace a literal interpretation. Rather, I believe it must be read within its historical context.
I believe in radical inclusiveness, meaning that all persons should be welcomed into the fellowship of spiritual beings, irrespective of their gender/sex, race/color, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, etc. Jesus was not in the “in” crowd; he did not hang with the “popular” folks. He embraced and empowered those who were marginalized and outcast by society, and we should follow his examples in our dealings with each other.
This site is a forum for my readers to share their experiences, observations and ideas, similar or different from mine.
Radical inclusiveness is the rule here as it is in my off-line life, so all persons are welcome here, and all viewpoints and opinions will be respected and honored.
