How to Get Back Into Your Blogging Groove

September 23, 2007

In the past couple of week, I have not been in my blogging groove and unable to muster much enthusiasm. As part of the process of figuring out why, I did a lot of reading and, in the process, discovered quite a few blogs that I had never visited before.

One of them was Susan Suarez: Online Journal to Creating a Successful Site. Her post, Re-energize Your Blogging Spirit, resonated with me from the first sentence: “Many bloggers experience time-to-time some discouragement that may make them want to stop blogging.” She offers four techniques for getting re-energized and inspired to continue blogging purposefully. They are:

Blog Your Blessings Sunday: Blogger Awards

August 26, 2007

I was very surprised, deeply humbled and mightily blessed when I signed on a few days ago to find that Tami at The Next Step had honored me with the Thoughtful Blogger Award.
Today, it is my privilege to bestow blogging awards upon some of my favorite writers in accordance with the rules established by Christy at Writer’s Reviews:

An embarrassment of riches.”

You are no doubt familiar with that phrase. It came to me as I sat down to write this article.

It refers to feeling so completely blessed that one is ashamed to talk about the things they are grateful for. It also implies some guilt about having so much … when so many have little.

Graduation season. It is almost over for this year.

I’ve attended a couple of graduation and award ceremonies to see loved ones honored. Have you? How do they affect you?

I confess that I’m a big softy and I get a lump in my throat when the band begins playing “Pomp and Circumstance.” Having graduated a few times myself, I am keenly aware of how much hard work is required to earn the right to “walk” — especially if an advanced degree is being conferred. I remember well what it felt like to put on that cap and gown and savor my accomplishments for a couple of hours, feeling successful, satisfied and relieved. I remember hearing the cheers of my friends and family as my name was called and feeling loved, supported and thrilled that I had made them proud of me.

Blog Your Blessings and Sunday Scribblings (Simple)

May 27, 2007

The prompt for this week’s Sunday Scribblings is “simple.”

Consider Matthew 5:21–24:

You’re familiar with the command to the ancients, “Do not murder.” I’m telling you that anyone who is so much as angry with a brother or sister is guilty of murder. Carelessly call a brother “idiot!” and you just might find yourself hauled into court. Thoughtlessly yell “stupid!” at a sister and you are on the brink of hellfire. The simple moral fact is that words kill. This is how I want you to conduct yourself in these matters. If you enter your place of worship and, about to make an offering, you suddenly remember a grudge a friend has against you, abandon your offering, leave immediately, go to this friend and make things right. Then and only then, come back and work things out with God.

Today is a day for closure. And that’s where the blessing part of this two-for-the-price-of-one article becomes relevant.

Did you have a wonderful Mother’s Day? Did you spend it with family? Did you honor a mother today, whether she be your own or someone else’s? Or, if you are a mother, did someone pay tribute to you?

I enjoyed a very quiet day right here at home. Just where I wanted to be. I had some […]

As is my custom these days, I slept in today. I just love Sunday morning sans church. It is the only day of the week when the alarm clock is not set. What a luxury.
I decided to channel-surf for a few minutes before departing my nice, cozy bed and I’m glad I did. I happened upon Billie […]

We will continue to invent the future through our blood and tears and through all our sadness … We will prevail …”

I’ve spent some time this afternoon cruising the ‘Net, reading various folks’ blog entries about the events of this past week. I have hesitated beginning work on this […]

I have been guilty of neglecting this blog the past few weeks. I have no excuse except … life! I had company staying with me and I couldn’t really say, “Oh, entertain yourselves while I go blog!” Nor would I have wanted to. Then it was spring break, then Easter, then the week after Easter with […]

Wow, I can’t believe that a whole week has gone by since I’ve had a chance to write here. I’ve been so busy with my house guests that I have not had a chance to sit down in front of the computer.
I’m happy to say that my friends have now gone back home. We had a wonderful time, but […]

Sometimes we don’t see what is right in front of us.I have friends here visiting me from another part of the country. Driving them around the area has been an eye-opening experience.

It is fun to hear what they say about the countryside, the town, landmarks, shopping, etc.

Blog Your Blessings Sunday: Forgiveness

Forgiveness

If you’ve been reading this blog regularly, you know that I have been working a great deal on the concept of thankfulness, feeling thankful, and giving thanks in a meaningful way for all things.

This week I have turned my attention to the topic of forgiveness. More specifically, I have been focusing on the manner in which we are called to forgive one another and how well I live up to that directive.

Consider these two passages:

Today I am thankful for the many talented, creative people who inspire me. One of them is Alice Walker, author of one of my all-time favorite books, “The Color Purple.”
There is a very interesting interview with Ms. Walker at beliefnet. She talks about her new book, “We Are the Ones We Have Been Waiting […]

Today being Sunday, I again enjoyed some time to myself engaging in my own form of worship. As I was doing so, my thoughts went to the one and only person from my former congregation that I can truly say I miss. So today, he is the focus of my post about my blessings.

The gentleman in question is 81 years young and I don’t use that cliché lightly. He not only appears and moves as though he is much younger than his chronological age, he is truly “young at heart” and in spirit. He always has a hug, and words of affirmation and inspiration for those around him.

I am very late getting this posted! That doesn’t mean I’m not grateful and don’t have blessings to enumerate here. Oh, I do! That’s part of why I’m so late.

I am grateful that the Divine Creator has been working on my heart. You see, I have a lot of friends and even some relatives who still belong to the church I left. And that can make things kind of awkward.

Blog Your Blessings Sunday: Thankfulness — A Way of Life

February 4, 2007

Last Sunday I posted about giving thanks in all things, and I had a week that included some interesting moments, as you can read about below. But I am thankful even for those times because I learn so much from them.

I am doing fairly well in my efforts to be thankful. I have remembered to be thankful each day, although I don’t always remember as soon as I would like to. Sometimes I have “oh, yeah …” moments when I find myself realizing that my thankful attitude in kicking in later than it should be. I think I am going to post a little reminder in my office. I just have to figure out where to put it so that it is noticeable to me, but not necessarily everyone else who enters that space. That will help me remember to stop and say a prayer of thanks when I am frustrated with or aggravated by something happening in the workplace.

In everything … give thanks

January 21, 2007

More often than not, I am guilty of not listening to the Holy Spirit. It sits on my shoulder and whispers in my ear, but I am frequently so distracted by the frenetic pace at which we live in this 21st century that I don’t hear what it is saying. The whispers get louder and louder … sometimes I hear something and swat at my ear as though a fly is buzzing near me. Sometimes I catch a word or two which causes me to stop and strain to make out the rest of the sentence, but then I get distracted or give up and never hear the entire message.

Too frequently, it requires the spiritual equivalent of someone dropping a house on me for the Holy Spirit to get my attention! On those occasions, hindsight reveals the clues I missed along the way, of course.

This is indeed one of those occasions.
